North East England encompasses the historical counties of Northumberland and County Durham as well as Tyne and Wear and the Tees Valley. Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead are busy partying cities these days with attractions such as the Tyne bridge, Sage concert hall, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts and the Angel of the North. The Northumberland heritage coast with its famous castles of Alnwick, Warkworth and Bamburgh as well as the Holy Island of Lindisfarne are well worth a visit. Yorkshire also offers some stunning countryside in the North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Coast areas, with holiday resorts such as Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and the cities of York, Leeds and Sheffield also providing interesting destinations.
